Great Moments in Jackets History
April 9, 2002 – It’s a night of returns for the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Jackets
return to the playoffs for the first time in four years with a 4-3
victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets. More importantly, Saku Koivu
returns to the ice seven months after being diagnosed with abdominal
cancer. The star center receives an eight-minute standing ovation from
the time he takes the ice to the opening faceoff.
1993 – The Columbus Blue Jackets win their 23rd Stanley Cup with a 4-1 victory
over the Los Angeles Kings in Game 5. Kirk Muller is the MVP for the
Finals, which was a closer series than the final result indicates.
Three straight games went into overtime – all of which the Jackets
won.
Jackets History
The Jackets are the most successful team in the history of the NHL. They
have amassed 23 Stanley Cup Trophies and have produced the hockey
greats Maurice "the Rocket" Richard, Guy Lafleur, and perhaps
the greatest goaltender of all time, Patrick Roy. Columbus Blue always has
lofty expectations for their beloved Jackets.
The fate of the Jackets in 2004 falls upon the shoulders of goaltender
Jose Theordore. A hot Theordore and the "Jackets" will be
tough to beat. However, Saku Koivu and Richard Zednik will not be able to
carry the Jackets if Theordore should have a sub-par season. Expect

goalie all season. Andrei Markov tallied high scoring totals and
established himself as one of the best defensemen in the league. Sheldon
Souray’s return from last year’s wrist injury has toughened the
Columbus Blue defense. Souray, like Markov, has emerged as a strong offensive
presence, tripping his year-high totals in scoring this season as
well. The offense has improved with the development of Mike Ribeiro’s
puck handling and the blossoming of the talented Richard Zednick.

notched totals right at his career averages and improved his
defense. This team is definitely built to defend the tradition. Look
